The BBC World Service had a really good spot tonight about legislation to get Congress to apologize for never making lynching illegal. It's times like these when you wonder if the rest of the world thinks us all to be batshit insane children. The announcer's closing to the segment? That it all happened in "America's not so distant past." It kind of chafes my hide when folks say "well, what good will apologizing do now?" Atoning for so-called "sins of the far past" is still an important step. At the very least, it makes you look less the imbecile... but honestly, do we deserve to be this wealthy of a nation? How are we going to fare, in terms of karma, without making some reparations?

In more "America is the slow step-child" news: how did this take us so long, anyway? Cripes!

In more cheerful news, the SO and I stopped by one of our ever-loving local comic book stores (of which there are four within walking distance. Huzzah, Seattle, your geekdom is complete!) and they had their whole front end devoted to 25-50 cent comics! It was the best. Most of them were pretty shoddy, but the SO found all these Battle of the Planets comics he'd been wanting for his insane Battle of the Planets addiction. Yay comics!
